Fóidín Mearaí’ (fóidín meaning “little sod of earth,” said to be kicked loose by wild dancing, and mearaí meaning “bewilderment” or “confusion”), I use this idea as both metaphor and method in my work, disorientation becomes a form of activism by reflecting the instability of displacement, where orientation—geographical, cultural or emotional is constantly negotiated. My painting questions how we navigate uncertainty, and seeks connection through shared vulnerability.

Part of ‘All Welcome’, a group show at vault Artist Studios on the theme of ‘Art as Activism’ with a specific focus on challenging the growing and insidious far right narratives around immigration.
